Le Refuge de Solaise

Le Refuge de Solaise is the highest hotel in France, perched high on the Solaise mountain at 2,551m, some 700m above the village. The views and sense of isolation are what Le Refuge de Solaise does best, giving you first tracks in the morning alongside a beautiful restaurant and sublime spa. This unique mountain hideaway is a special place to stay or visit when in Val d’Isère.

Alpine-chic design, incorporating aged woods and carefully chosen fabrics, runs throughout the four private apartments and sixteen rooms and suites. The fourteen-bed dormitory is a great option for solo travellers or groups looking for a more sociable mountain escape. With its distinctive rustic style, Jean-Charles Covarel and Jean-Claude Borel have created a beautiful hideaway that suits all types of traveller.

The spa offers the ultimate in high-altitude relaxation, with a peaceful space designed to help you unwind and recharge after a day in the mountains.

Location

Tucked high above Val d’Isère, Le Refuge de Solaise is only accessible via the slopes and Solaise Gondola, making it feel wonderfully removed from the rest of the resort. The reward is incredible mountain views and a truly unique alpine escape.

Benefiting from sunrise around two hours earlier than in the rest of the resort, guests can carve those first tracks into the mountainside, long before the pistes have been touched by anyone else. And it’s not just the early starts - the earlier sunset means you can enjoy three extra hours of sunset drinks and dining before watching the sky open up to a canvas of stars.

It’s worth noting that once the ski lifts close, there is no possibility of travelling down to the village, so this is very much a stay for those looking to embrace the mountain and switch off from the outside world.

Design

The hotel offers a range of spacious rooms, from 35 to 68 sqm, accommodating up to five guests. With panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows and sweeping views across the valley, the rooms provide a bright and comfortable base for a stay in the mountains. The larger rooms are particularly well suited to families, while flexible bed configurations also make them a great option for friends travelling together. All rooms feature a TV, minibar, telephone, safe, hairdryer and Wi-Fi access.

The dormitory, in the spirit of traditional refuges, includes a shared bathroom, two toilets, sound system, Wi-Fi, individual lockers and hairdryers. A great option for those looking for a more sociable stay, it’s a chance to meet like-minded guests and swap mountain stories in a warm, cosy alpine setting. Alternatively, the dormitory can be booked on an exclusive basis.

The Refuge de Solaise offers four beautifully appointed apartments ranging from 74 to 380 sqm, accommodating between four and eighteen guests. Combining generous living spaces with elegant, contemporary interiors and stunning views across the surrounding mountains and valley, they are ideal for families and groups of friends looking to stay together. With a warm blend of local materials, bespoke furnishings and comfortable spaces to relax and dine, the apartments offer a luxurious and private base from which to enjoy the unique mountain setting.

Food & Other Facilities

Perched high above Val d’Isère, Le Refuge’s restaurant is all about hearty Savoyard cooking with a side of spectacular mountain views. Settle in for generous local specialities, from fondue to raclette, in a cosy alpine setting, or head out onto the sun-drenched terrace for lunch with the peaks stretching out before you. Come Saturday evening, the ‘Dinner Under the Stars’ experience brings Alpine classics and regional produce together for a memorable night at 2,551m.

The Spa du Refuge is a peaceful retreat overlooking the peaks of Val d’Isère, with an indoor pool, outdoor hot tub, cold plunge, panoramic sauna and steam rooms. After a day on the slopes, ease tired muscles with a little contrast therapy, unwind in the relaxation areas or book a myBlend treatment for some well-deserved pampering. High-altitude R&R doesn’t get much better than this.
